Paved road to provide access to the sea from Niassa province, Mozambique. [ 2007-01-04 ].
Maputo, Mozambique, 04 Jan – A 500 kilometer paved road between the cities of Lichinga, in Niassa province, and Montepuez, in the province of Cabo Delgado, is to due to begin being built this year, Mozambican newspaper Notícias reported.According to the newspaper, which quotes the governor of Niassa province, Arnaldo Bimbe, this project is financed by the African Development Bank (ADB) and the Japanese government and several other partners.
The road will provide access from Niassa province to the sea, allowing the transaction of goods to be carried out via the port of Pemba.
Thus far goods from Niassa have been exported via the port of Nacala via the Lichinga/Cuamba/Nacala railroad corridor.
The governor of Niassa said that Lichinga/Cuamba train was only used to transport goods and that it had been operating regularly since August, with at least one train a month.
